I made sure I got a copy of "Songbird" and "The Importance of Being Idle" though because I do like 'em. I think Liam's theory is born out because they've deliberately left off "Whatever" and iTunes isn't carrying it. It's an ego maniac's fantasy aswell, isn't it? A band member can choose stuff they'd not been allowed to release as singles by the record company and snub ex-members by not including certain tracks. True! I'm not sure Oasis and Jamiroquai *have* done the same thing. To be sure (to be sure), including a couple of rubbish new songs instead of decent early singles is a cynical move, but there's no new songs on the Oasis record; it's a selection of album tracks (plus 4 B-sides) chosen by Noel. In fact (and I may be wrong here), I seem to recall seeing an interview somewhere where Noel said that this was a "Best Of", not a "Greatest Hits", which is why it's not a simple singles collection. And to be fair, if you'd spent a career recording a mixed bag of classic pub-rock and absolute shite, you'd want to include the good stuff too! But I do agree that, whatever the motives behind the current record, the label will certainly put out a regular singles collection in a couple of years' time, and all their fans will shell out again. I'd imagine they're less susceptible than, say, die-hard Bjork fans, who buy blister-packed mini CD singles, live versions of each album, etc. Bjork's label have been shameless in exploiting her fans with all sorts of limited editions. Jamiroquai have just done the same thing omitting three of the four singles from "Return Of The Space Cowboy" and one from "A Funk Odyssey" and instead including two new songs. Maybe it's more of an effort to make money in this case. Either way, surely people want all the releases (single edits that they might not have got) on one disc rather than new songs that don't begin to compare to their fellow tracks, or repeats of album tracks they've already got?
